2015 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) took place in Congress Center Hamburg (CCH), Germany recently. Shandong University underwater robot team was invited to attend relevant activities, and got the second place in the International Underwater Robotics Competition.

At the conference, SDU underwater robot team interpreted the principles, structures, developing process of this completion and improvements of SDU in innovative entrepreneur education to attendees, which was highly praised by worldwide known scholars including Jianwei Zhang, Professor of University of Hamburg, Germany, and also the General Chair of IROS 2015. SDU team members also interacted with German schoolchildren coming for visiting, which was reported by German news media. Ten universities from different countries attended the 2015 International Underwater Robotics Competition held concurrently. After a 5-day fierce competition, SDU finished runer-up in the International Underwater Robotics Competition.

The International Underwater Robotics Competition, co-launched by Shandong University, Peking University and other universities in China, is the first robotic competition program entirely initiated by Chinese. Always being in the leading position in the education field of underwater robotics, SDU paid high attention to this competition. As representatives of the underwater robot team, Chen Yanjun, the vice chairman of International League of Underwater Robot(ILUR), mentor Liu Tiantian, and undergraduates of Software College, Zhou Qiang and Dong Jinglei, attended the conference and competition.

IROS, co-held by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and RSJ(Robotics Society of Japan), is one of the flagship conferences in international robot and automation field, during which robot exhibition and competition exhibition are held concurrently. So far IROS has been held 28 times.
