Recently, the SDU Art Troupe made a performing tour to six Confucius Institutes in Canadian cities including Moncton, Fredericton, St. Catherine, Regina, Saskatoon, and Edmonton. Senior officials of the Chinese embassy in Canada and Roger Lord, the world-class pianist known as “the piano prince of Canada”, watched the show.

Canada is the first North American country among the world performing tour destinations of the SDU Art Troupe. The art troupe presented various features of Chinese traditional culture in the form of tutti, solo, ballad, Chinese classical dance, traditional painting and calligraphy, which introduced Chinese traditional culture and art to international friends. The show and performances by China’s young students received high praise from the audience. Members of the SDU Art Troupe also communicated with Roger Lord.

The show was designated by Hanban (China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, NOCFL) and organized by the Office of the Confucius Institute and the Fine Arts School of SDU. Local government officials, leaders of universities, local celebrities and overseas Chinese were present at the show. Medias including Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and the Chinese website of Saskatchewan reported the performance.

These years, the Fine Arts School of SDU has effectively enhanced its teaching level and paid great attention to international communication. It has been invited to give performances in countries including Russia, Japan, Republic of Korea, France, Morocco and Regions including Hong Kong and Taiwan, which made contribution to the communication and spread of Chinese traditional culture. The SDU Art Troupe’s performing tour to Canada contributed to the Sino-Canada friendship and world’s multiple culture development.
