On November 2, Professor Sergii Vakhnenko, Corresponding Member of the National Academic of Science (NAS) of Ukraine, and Head of the 13th division of Institute for Superhard Materials of NAS of Ukraine, joined Shandong University as a guest professor. SDU President Zhang Rong met with the guests and awarded the letter of appointment for Professor Ivakhnenko.

In the meeting, Zhang Rong referred that SDU started crystal material research from 1950s and has attained remarkable achievements in the preparation of functional crystal materials. He hoped to take the opportunity of Professor Ivakhnenko’s participation to strengthen the cooperation between the State Key Lab of Crystal Material and the Institute for Superhard Materials of NAS of Ukraine in the research of synthetic diamond crystal and boron nitride, etc. SDU would mobilize resources to create favorable conditions for the scientific cooperation of both sides.

Professor Ivakhnenko reviewed previous cooperation between the Institute for Superhard Materials of NAS and Chinese scientific research institutions, and spoke highly of the equipment conditions and achievements of SDU in researches of crystal materials. He also suggested that both sides conduct more academic communications among young scholars and share research results. Members from the Department of International Affairs and the State Key Lab of Crystal Material took part in this activity.
