The 2016 International Conference on Global Energy was held in Beijing and the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) was inaugurated on March 30 and 31, 2016. Li Shouxin, the Party Secretary of Shandong University, attended the meeting and met with Liu Zhenya, Chairman of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). Both sides expressed their common vision to further strengthen cooperation.
GEIDCO is the first international organization in energy field founded by China, covering areas of major researches combined with technological innovation, technical standards, statistical information release etc.. The first batch of 80 members are from Asia, Europe, Africa, America and Oceania and other countries on five continents. The establishment of the organization marks the global energy interconnection (GEI) has entered a new stage of comprehensive development. GEIDCO has a council of 15 members, which includes SGCC, China Huaneng Group and Shandong University. Shandong University is the only college in the council. On March 29, Wang Qilong, Executive Vice President of Shandong University, attended the first council meeting of GEIDCO.
GEI, composed of key technologies of UHV transmission, smart grid and renewable energy, is a system with the characteristics of sustainable energy supply, green and low-carbon, efficient and open sharing, and is also the only way for sustainable human development, as well as the development of low carbon economy. It provides a realistic solution of energy transformation with electric alternative and clean alternative provided by China, which is the welfare of all mankind. By constructing GEI, the peak time of China's carbon emissions has changed from 2030 to 2025. We can achieve the goal that the global temperature rises by less than 2°C by 2050. Shandong University will continue to strengthen the effective cooperation with SGCC and other units relying on "Collaborative Innovation Center for Global Energy Interconnection". Shandong University can exploit its advantages of multi-discipline to strengthen the research of UHV transmission, smart grid and renewable ener
