President of UOT Visited SDU

A delegation led by Endo Shunro, President of University of Toyamo (UOT) paid a visit to Shandong University (SDU) on September 8. Zhang Rong, President of SDU, met with the delegation. The two parties renewed the cooperation agreement between UOT and SDU.

In the meeting, Zhang acknowledged productive results of the cooperation between UOT and SDU in the past two decades, and introduced SDU from six perspectives, including its history, discipline construction, new features of organization, cooperation with local authorities, cultural inheritance and international cooperation. Zhang also said that the two universities should further promote the joint students cultivation and academic cooperation in medicine, which benefits from the student exchange programs and collaborative research between UOT and SDU. He pointed out that the two parties could benefit each other in terms of talents cultivation and contribution to the development of local communities. Endo Shunro said SDU has profound culture and rich experience in developing humanities; the two sides should continue and expand the cooperation to promote exchange and communication of Sino-Japanese education, on the basis of the satisfactory outcome of the cooperation on humanities, materials science, medicine and pharmacy.

After the meeting, the two parties renewed the agreements of academic cooperation and student exchange. The ceremony was attended by staff from School of Material Science and Engineering and the Department of International Affairs of SDU. During the visit, the delegation went to the Chinese Culture Experience Hall and the SDU Museum. They also visited Qilu Hospital of SDU and its Brain Research Center, and held a discussion with relevant directors.

Founded in Japan in 1949, University of Toyama is a comprehensive national university, which has four faculties, including Faculty of Arts and Science, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Faculty of Engineering. There are approximately 10,000 students at the university. In 1997, SDU and UOT’s Faculty of Engineering signed an exchange agreement, and a cooperation agreement between the two universities was signed in 2002.
