On September 18, the first thematic forum of the University Alliance of Belt and Road convened in Dunhuang City, Gansu Province. Over 280 attendants, including presidents and representatives from 110 domestic and foreign universities were present. Han Shenghao, vice president of Shandong University, attended the forum and signed the Memorandum of Understanding, which marked SDU’s official entry into the UAB&R.
According to the MOU, the universities in the alliance will cooperate in such areas as talent cultivation, scientific research, discipline construction, exchanges of teaching staff, sharing of knowledge and technology, etc. through in the following waysaspects: student exchanges, joint application for research projects, construction of university think-tanks and bases for scientific researches, establishment of discipline alliances, conducting cooperation in running schools, etc. The league will carry out and advance a batch of cooperation projects to promote educational development level and share mutual benefits.
It is reported that the initiative of the University Alliance of Belt and Road was first launched in October, 2015. Currently in the league, there are 126 universities from 23 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, and South America.
