A delegation of Cheeloo College of Medicine of Shandong University, led by Hou Junping, the college's Party Secretary, visited Harvard Medical School (HMS) and New York University Langone Medical Center from June 6 to June 11. During the visit, the delegation held a job fair and met the alumni there.
At HMS, the delegation held a talk with Dr. Ajay Singh, the school's Associate Dean. The two sides discussed issues concerning international exchange and joint research in medicine and reached an agreement on the establishment of SDU Harvard Medical Education Center. The delegation also visited Longwood Medical Area, Brigham and Women's Hospital Center for Robotic Surgery, Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT, and NYU Cancer Institute.
Apart from the talks and meetings, the delegation also held job fairs in Boston and New York respectively, attracting a great number of overseas talents in medicine and related fields. In the fair, the delegation presented a brief introduction to Cheeloo College of Medicine, the development of medical disciplines, and its talent policy. Cheeloo College of Medicine welcomes the outstanding talents to join SDU to strengthen its faculty team, thereby advancing the construction of top-class medical disciplines. Many alumni who worked in America also came to the fair.
Founded in 1782, Harvard Medical School ranks first among all American medical schools. After more than 200 years' development, the school now has more than 10,000 faculty and staff, over 8,000 students (including residents and postdoctoral fellows) and 17 affiliated hospitals and research institutes. The school has made considerable contributions to the development of human medicine, and enjoyed many world-leading discoveries in the medical history. Currently, SDU and HMS are working together to promote the establishment of the SDU Harvard Medical Education Center, which will be launched officially in the end of this June.
New York University, founded in 1831, is a private world-class research university. It is comprised of 18 colleges and research institutes. Established in 1841, NYU medical school enjoys a renowned reputation in the world and attracts lots of Chinese students to study there. The visit not only promoted the exchange and cooperation of medical disciplines between SDU and overseas universities, but also expanded the high-level talent recruitment.
