The Zhao Jiuzhang Prize for Excellent Middle-Aged and Young Scientist in 2017 was given to Prof. Chen Yao at the School of Space Science and Physics, SDU at Weihai, on October 30.
Professor Chen Yao, doctoral supervisor, Distinguished Young Scholar entitled by National Natural Science Foundation of China, is the Executive Dean of School of Space Science and Physics, SDU at Weihai. He mainly specializes in Coronal Dynamics and has published more than 70 SCI papers, including 30 plus published in ApJ, ApJL, JGR, and SolPhys as first author or corresponding author, and have been cited by SCI authors for about 700 times. He also won other prizes such as the Spaceweather Science Youth Innovation Award, BASU Early Career Award in Sun-Earth Systems Science from American Geophysical Union, Outstanding Teacher Award from Baosteel Education Foundation, and Fumin Xinglu Labour Medal from Shandong Province.
The Zhao Jiuzhang Prize, set up in 1989, is conferred biennially to middle-aged and young scientists under 45 who have made outstanding contribution to Atmospheric Physics, Geophysics, Space Physics and Space Exploration. 91 scientists in total have won this award in the past 20 years. This year, 23 young scientists from 19 units including universities and colleges, China Earthquake Administration, Chinese Academy of Science competed for this award and only 4 eventually won. The other three winners are Dr. Xin Jinyuan from Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Science, Dr. Fu Guangyu from Institute of Earthquake Forecasting, China Earthquake Administration, and Dr. Lu Qifeng from National Satellite Meteorological Center.
