From October 16 to 19, a six-member delegation including President Oka Seilou and Vice President Fukuda Ryoushin of Yamaguchi University of Japan visited Shandong University. President of SDU Fan Liming met with the delegation.

During the visit, Fan reviewed the substantial achievements between Shandong University and Yamaguchi University, including the communication between teachers and students, academic cooperation, and staffs exchanges since the signing of the cooperation agreement in 1983. She emphatically introduced the “three cities and eight campus” school-running pattern of SDU and the discipline layout, as well as the “serving for Shandong” plan. Fan hopes that after this visit and work conferences between the delegations and related units, the two universities would continue inheriting friendship and developing cooperation.

Oka Seilou stated that Shandong University was the key cooperation partner of Yamaguchi University, and based on the good cooperative foundation set up by both sides for the past 34 years, Yamaguchi University would pay attention to conducting scientific research cooperation in economy, information, political science, etc. The two presidents exchanged their views on strengthening cooperation on medical science.

Afterwards, Fan Liming and Oka Seilou signed the Memorandum of Understanding between Shandong University and Yamaguchi University and a series of cooperation agreements. The two universities will continue developing cooperation on the exchange of researchers and staffs and setting satellite offices.

On October 17, Vice President of Shandong University Zhang Yongbing met the delegation at  Qingdao campus and held a work conference. He addressed that the two universities could combine common advantageous disciplines and make use of our friendly partnership to discuss further cooperation on big data research and local service on the basis of the research in Asia-Pacific region and the cooperation on information science.

During the visit, the delegation attended work conferences separately with School of Economics, School of Political Science and Public Administration, and School of Foreign Languages and Literature, discussing the details of cooperation. Besides, the delegation visited the library in Qingdao campus and the Qilu Hospital, and organized the alumni activity of Shandong University and Yamaguchi University.
