On December 15, the council of the Asian Society of Cardiology (ASC) was convened in Shenzhen. With the aim of developing cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment technology,cardiologists from 18 Asian countries and regions gathered together to establish the council of ASC. Professor Huo Yong, a leading cardiologist from Peking University First Hospital, was elected to be the president of ASC; academician Zhang Yun from Qilu Hospital of SDU, academician Ge Junbo from Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University and professor Lim Chun Leng Michael from Mount Elizabeth Hospitals in Singapore were elected to be the honorary presidents of ASC. The meeting also appointed the vice-presidents of ASC. The ASC has a board of directors and working committee, members of which were also elected at this meeting.
Zhang delivered a speech at the meeting. He pointed out that during 40 years of reform and opening up, cardiologists in Chinese mainland have made outstanding contribution to the research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases and become the leading force in the development of Asian cardiovascular diseases in many fields. He also emphasized that the establishment of ASC will fuel the research of cardiovascular disease in Asia and the world at large, and contribute to the improvement of human health.
ASC is a non-profit professional academic association, covering East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, West Asia and Russia. The mission of ASC is to improve the cardiovascular health of Asian people, innovate the cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment technology in Asia and increase the academic influence of Asia in cardiovascular research in the world. ASC academy consists of highly influential cardiologists from different countries.
