Recently, the research work titled "Single-layer Ag2S: A two-dimensional bi-directional auxetic semiconductor" is published on Nano Letters (IF=12.08). This work is aminly finished by School of Physics and State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials of Shandong University. Prof.Ma Yandong and Prof.Dai Ying are the corresponding authors and postgraduate student Rui Peng is the first author of this paper.
For two-dimensional materials with negative Poisson's ratio, an expansion (shrink) in the transverse direction will occur when a tensile (compressive) strain is acted in the longitudinal direction. Those materials have great potential in medicine, tougher composites, defense, and many other areas due to their intriguing features such as toughness, shear resistance, enhanced sound, and vibration absorption. So far, few two-dimensional auxetic materials have been reported. Prof. Dai Ying's group identify a compelling two-dimensional auxetic material, single-layer Ag2S, which possesses large negative Poisson's ratios in both in-plane and out-of-plane directions. Such a coexistence of simultaneous negative Poisson's ratios in two directions is extremely rare, which is mainly originated from its particular zigzag-shaped buckling structure.
Prof. Dai Ying's group has been focusing on two-dimensional materials' novel properties and applications for an extended period, and has obtained a series of innovative achievements. The relevant research results have been published in Nano Energy, ACS Nano, Nano Lett., Adv. Mater., Angew. Chem. In. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Phys. Rev. B and other famous international journals. The research is supported by the State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials, National Natural Science foundation of China (No. 11804190 and 21333006), Qilu Young Scholar Program of Shandong University, Taishan Scholar Program of Shandong Province, and 111 Project (No. B13029).
