SDU Seeks Co-operation with Top Singaporean and Australian Universities

Recently, Fan Liming, President of SDU, led a delegation to visit Singapore and Australia to enhance substantive cooperation with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), the University of Melbourne, Monash University, and Sydney University in such fields as AI, biological medical engineering, chemistry, physics, and computer science.

On April 4, the delegation paid a visit to Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and met withLam Khin Yong, Vice-President of NTU in charge of scientific research. Both sides reached a consensus on the establishment of a joint AI Research Institute, agreed to sign a cooperation agreement in the near future and formally establish the Research Institute. Besides, Fan also visited the Confucius Institute of NTU jointly launched by the two universities.

On April 5, the delegation paid a visit to the National University of Singapore, and had a dialogue on a joint biomedicine research institute with Freddy Boey, Vice-President of NUS, and Andrew Wee respectively. Both sides agreed to build a joint biomedicine research institute and hoped to seek cooperation in talent training, teacher exchanges, academic research, etc. Besides, the two sides agreed upon combined training of undergraduates and discussed cooperation in innovation and entrepreneurship as well as potential scientific research trainee program, enterprise trainee program, joint courses development and overseas campus projects in engineering, economics, business, etc.

On the afternoon of April 5, 2019 Academic Seminar for SDU Overseas Young Scholars in Singapore was held in NTU, and nearly 90 young scholars from Singaporean universities and scientific research institutions attended the Seminar.

On April 7, 2019 Academic Seminar for SDU Overseas Young Scholars in Melbourne co-organized by Chinese Association of Professors and Scholars, Australia, was held in Melbourne University, which was attended by scholars from universities like Melbourne University, Monash University, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, and the School of Health Sciences of University of Tasmania.

On April 8, the delegation visited the University of Melbourne, met with Duncan Maskell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne, and signed the Letter of Intent Between Shandong University and the University of Melbourne.

In the working seminar, two sides had an in-depth discussion on building a platform for cooperation in chemistry, physics, environment, etc., applying for support from the two governments, and promoting the project of double doctoral degrees and exchanges among research fellows including post-doctors.

On the afternoon of April 8, the delegation paid a visit to Monash University, and signed the Articulation Arrangements for Faculty of Engineering and Incoming Study Abroad Agreement with Marc Parlange , the Provost and Senior Vice-President of Monash University.

On the afternoon of April 9, the delegation visited the University of Sydney, met with Katherine Belov, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney, and Tao Dacheng, an academician of both the Australian Academy of Science and the European Academy of Sciences. They had a discussion on combined student training and scientific research cooperation in business, chemistry, computer, information technology, medical science, etc.

During the visit, Fan also met with SDU alumni in Singapore, Melbourne, Sydney, and so on.
