Academician Wang Xiaoyun Wins Test-of-Time Awards and the Levchin Prize for Real-World Cryptography

rencently, Wang Xiaoyun, dean of the School of Cyber Science and Technology of Shandong University, dual-employedappointedacademician and chair professorof Shandong University, has won two international awards in cryptologic research: Test-of-Time Awards and The Levchin Prize for Real-World Cryptography.

Prof. Wang Xiaoyun is a cryptographer and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She is mainly engaged instudies of cryptography theory and related mathematical problems. In 1983, Wang Xiaoyun was admitted to the Mathematics Department of SDU andsuccessively obtained her bachelor, master and doctorate degrees.Receiving her Ph.D.in 1993Aftergraduated from the doctorate in 1993, she taughtat SDUas a lecturer, associate professor and professor in the Mathematics Department of SDU. She was elected as anacademician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2017 andawarded has wonthe special prize of the CryptologicPassword Innovation Prizewhichheld bythe Chinese Association for Cryptologic Research. In 2019, she won the fourth Future Science Prize in the fieldsectionof mathematics and computer science.

Recently, the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR) announced the winning papersof the "Test-of-Time Award" in 2020. The paper published at Crypto in 2015 with Wang Xiaoyun as the first author was awarded for its breakthrough in the analysis of Hash Functions.

The "Test-of-Time Award" was set up by IACR in 2019. The IACR Test-of-Time Award annually recognizes papers published 15 years ago, which have lasting influences in the field of Cryptography. Only one paper was selected separately from those published at the three IACR General Conferences (Eurocrypt, Crypto, and Asiacrypt).

Wang Xiaoyun also won the Levchin Prize for Real-World Cryptography in January.The Levchin Prize for Real-World Cryptography was established in 2015 by internet entrepreneur Max Levchin. The prize honors significant contributions to real-world cryptography and commendscelebrateadvances that have major clouts on the practice of cryptography and itssystematic use in real-world systems. No more thanUp totwo awards will be given every year.
