Main Activities:Catch-words such as "popular organizations", "Non-Governmental Organizations"(NGO), "social relief", "charitable undertakings" and "philanthropists" have in recent years attracted widespread attention, including from governments. Some of the underlying issues have become hot topics in academia as well. In fact, these phenomena have already been quite common in China historically, especially in modern China. Therefore, it is necessary and instructive to put these phenomena into their proper historical context. Since the onset of the modern era, social relief and charitable enterprises have always relied on popular organizations. The purpose of this conference is to explore the relationship between these two things.
Main content for discussion: 1. history of popular organizations in modern China 2. evolution of charitable undertakings in modern China 3. historical inspiration from the development of popular organizations and charitable undertakings.
