Abstract:
There is a growing evidence base that demonstrates that traditional lecture is not an effective or efficient use of class time in US universities. Many major institutions are changing their approach to classroom teaching. Attendees of this talk will learn:
1. Where is traditional lecture failing our students?
2. What alternatives exist to traditional lecture?
3. What are the components of engaged teaching and learning?
Bio:
Matthew Komelski is currently Instructor of Human Development at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He has been awarded Access and Inclusion Award, Faculty Scholar in the Virginia Tech Graduate Academy of Teaching Excellence, and Student's Choice Award.
