Recently, the results list of 2012 MCM / ICM (The Mathematical Contest in Modeling / The Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling) was published on its official website. Students from Shandong University were awarded 3 Meritorious Winner awards and 23 Honorable Mentions. Shandong University has obtained a total of 141 Meritorious Winner and Honorable Mention since it first took part in the contest in 2004.
Shandong University attaches great importance to this contest. With the meticulous organization of the “Mathematical modeling & Mathematics experiment” and “System analysis & Software design”, the two innovative educational platforms at SDU, the departments concerned has been able to open the laboratory for contestants as the competition venue during the winter vacation.
Having given up their holiday, the faculty advisors spared no effort to offer pre-competition training and guidance. The contestants overcame different kinds of obstacles to achieve peak performance, and gained good results in the contest.
MCM/ICM is an international mathematical modeling contest for high school students and college undergraduates. Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) challenges teams of students to clarify, analyze, and propose solutions to open-ended problems. The contest attracts diverse students and faculty advisors from over 500 institutions around the world. The Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) is an extension of the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM). It is designed to develop and advance interdisciplinary problem-solving skills as well as competence in written communication.
