The teacher of this team, Yuan Wei was invited to the award party to present the awards and he also received the Award for cultivating talents himself. Meanwhile, the School of Fine Arts won the Outstanding Organization Award.
The competition lasted for four days. SDU students managed to overcome many climate and traffic problems in order to practice all the time. Even in their residence, they also shared opinions with the teacher in charge of supervising them. What's more important, they made great progress and have learned the different concepts of piano playing and teaching, thus broadening their horizons.
The Hong Kong-Asia Piano Open Competition was founded in 1989. With the concept of“Everyone Can Enjoy”, it is aimed at the transmission of piano music in China and even the world. Hong Kong Piano Music Association, the organizer, is the only non-profit organization in Hong Kong. The chairman of HKPMA is Choi Sown Le, a celebrated international pianist. Meanwhile, some famous pianists, like Fanny Waterman, Fu Cong, Zhou Guangren, Li Mingqiang, Zhu Yafen, are employed as artistic directors. The School of Fine Arts of SDU started to send students in the competition in 2003, and has achieved great success. Allowing for the professional demands of players, the School of Fine Arts started to host the preliminaries independently in 2007, with the permission of the HKPMA. Till now, four preliminaries have been held.
