The list of the 3rd Round National First-level Disciplines Evaluation recently released by the China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) revealed that the ranking of SDU first-level disciplines increased significantly. Three first-level disciplines of SDU entered the top 5 among all universities in China. Of those, the two disciplines of mathematics and archaeology ranked third, and Chinese Language and Literature ranking fifth.
Thirty nine first-level disciplines of SDU were evaluated: mathematics entered the top 5 percent in China; four disciplines, Marxist Theory, Chinese Language and Literature, archaeology, and statistics ranked among the top ten percent; eleven other disciples among the top 11-20 percent; thirteen among the top 21-30 percent; and ten ranked among the top 10 of all schools in the country. For SDU, both rankings of disciplines and the number of disciplines among the top 30 percent increased in the 3rd round evaluation compared to the result of the 2nd round in 2008. In particular, the rankings of mathematics, physics, Chinese Culture and Literature, applied economic, environment science and engineering, Marxist Theory, and software engineering increasing significantly.
The National First-level Disciplines Evaluation has been conducted once every five years by the CDGDC since 2002. Conducted by means of combining objective evaluation and subjective assessment, the result of the discipline evaluation earns wide recognition from academic circles and related departments. SDU will provide support to different disciplines according to rankings in the evaluation in order to promote higher academic quality and performance.
