Shandong University, or SDU held an online signing ceremony on Aug 5 with the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom on a major construction project.
Han Shenghao, vice-president of SDU and Samuel Kingman, vice-president of the University of Nottingham, signed a framework agreement to build the planned Shandong-Nottingham Joint Research Center for Green Energy and Materials, as well as a progression agreement on an undergraduate and postgraduate study exchange program.
Under the agreements, the two universities will make the Joint Research Center the platform to deepen their existing scientific research cooperation.
It is understood that they will carry out cooperation in various areas – such as in establishing new energy majors, jointly training and educating students and the commercialization of their scientific and technological achievements. They will also carry out the joint cultivation of undergraduate and master's degrees in energy-related majors.
Han said this year marked the 120th anniversary of SDU and the signing ceremony was also one of the events in the university's celebrations. He said that the two, taking this opportunity, would continue to work together to build a high-level research cooperation platform, train international talent with global competitiveness, as well as strengthen and deepen their cooperation in research and education.
UoN's Samuel Kingman congratulated SDU on its 120th anniversary. He said that the research projects that the two teams would work on together would not only be significant for cooperation between the two universities, but would also help their countries tackle global energy challenges. He expressed his hope that both sides would continue to jointly cultivate outstanding students.
SDU and UoN established a long-term partnership in energy research and other fields since 2014 and the two signed a university-level memorandum of cooperation in 2019.
