Shandong University, or SDU and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, also known as CUHK, reportedly held an online signing ceremony for a strategic cooperation agreement on Sept 8.
The agreement details that the two sides will provide diligent care and support for academics and students on exchanges, with joint support for teaching and academic activities on both sides.
It is also understood that SDU and CUHK will carry out joint research in computational medicine and health informatics, ancient literature mining and sorting, tissue engineering and regeneration, as well as translational research for reproductive medicine.
Fan Liming, president of SDU, expressed her hope that partners would take the opportunity to better integrate resources, give full play to their respective advantages, jointly promote exchanges and cooperation between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Chinese mainland – and continue to support each other in personnel training, academic exchanges and research cooperation.
Duan Chongzhi, president of CUHK, congratulated SDU on its 120th anniversary. He talked about four development fields in his university's 2012-25 strategic planning: Chinese studies - traditional and modern, innovative biomedicine, information and automation technology, as well as the environment and sustainable development. He urged both to deepen exchanges and cooperation in the fields, which they could work on together to develop.
SDU and CUHK have made connections through student exchanges ever since 2002. They have combined forces in many fields – especially a joint laboratory for reproductive genetics, which has achieved a series of impressive achievements in academic research and industry-university-research cooperation.
